DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say a woman found dead on a popular hiking trail in Stone Mountain Wednesday may have been lured there to her death.

Police have identified the woman as Shantelle Monroe, 24.

Three high school students found Monroe's body near the playground around Main Street Park Drive in the middle of the afternoon.

Channel 2's Tom Jones spoke to police, who said they now believe someone lured Monroe to her death.

Police believe her killer convinced Monroe to come to the area and planned to kill her.

"We don't think it's a random incident," Lt. Rod Bryant with the DeKalb County police said. "We think it's going to possibly be isolated."

Officers believe Monroe was shot between 2 and 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Monroe had no identification on her and was fully clothed, police said.

The trail is very popular and so is the playground, but no children were playing at the time.

Officers are alarmed the shooting happened when it did.

"It's very shocking," Bryant said. "Like I said, it's during the afternoon. Kids walk through there. So it's very shocking."

On Wednesday, video from NewsChopper 2 showed nearly a dozen police cruisers at the scene.

"Right now, we're telling the residents if they've heard or seen anything to please call the DeKalb County Police Department," Sgt. Jacques Spencer said.
