ATLANTA — Cellphone video shows a fight between a parent and a student inside a high school bathroom.
A spokesperson for Atlanta Public Schools confirmed to Channel 2’s Matt Johnson that the fight happened at North Atlanta High School on Wednesday.
School officials said two students had an argument earlier in the morning and the fight broke out during the students’ lunch break.
The district said one of the students involved helped her mother get onto the campus and then the mother helped her daughter attack the other student, a 14-year-old.
Reality star Sierra Gates said the 14-year-old injured in the fight is her daughter, and she has questions about how the parent got involved.
“I was heartbroken. I’ve been crying all day,” Gates said. “To see that her safety is not assure at school is very scary to me."
Video that Gates and her attorney, Adamma Mckinnon, provided appears to show the fight witnesses captured. Atlanta Public Schools police are now investigating.
“The injuries were caused by the parent,” McKinnon said. “A black eye, scratches and contusions all around the side of her face and the back of her head."
Johnson contacted the Atlanta Schools Police Department and a spokesperson told him that “the parent was inappropriately provided access to the building by the student.”
“That’s a severe concern, not only for my client Ms. Gates, but also other parents of students who attend North Atlanta High School,” McKinnon said.
Gates said she wants everyone held accountable, including the school.
Discipline is expected to be handed down by the school district.
Criminal charges could be possible, depending on the results of the investigation.
