Suspect dead after brief standoff with deputies in Walton County

MONROE, Ga. — A brief standoff with sheriff’s deputies in Walton County has left a suspect dead, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Deputies were serving an out of state felony warrant on a man believed to be in a home off Blackberry Cove Lane in Monroe just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

When deputies arrived to the house, the suspect, who has not been identified, approached them with a handgun.

He was instructed to put the handgun down, and fired into the ceiling before putting it down. Deputies said he picked it up shortly after and made an aggressive move toward deputies.

Deputies fired at the man, hitting him. They attempted tp provide the man aid, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officials have not commented on what charges the suspect was facing.

The deputies involved were not injured.

The GBI also says that once their investigation is complete, it will be provided to the Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office.
