JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Water has been restored to hundreds of homes in Johns Creek after a water main break caused a road to cave in Thursday morning.
Channel 2’s Audrey Washington was at the scene on Old Alabama Road as crews worked to repair the road.
The hole opened up at the intersection at the intersection with Buice Road. Both directions from Buice Road to Waits Ferry Road are closed as crews work to repair the hole.
County officials said the water main broke around 6 a.m. because the 12-inch cast iron pipe is simply too old. They said repairs probably won’t be done until about 9 p.m.
The road reopened around midnight.
Neighbors said it was a major inconvenience.
"I just went to get some water from Publix nearby and we don't know what to do, we have to figure out something,” said neighbor Damu Venkatesan.
"It's pretty bad when you can't take a shower and you have to use bottled water to brush your teeth and you can't flush the toilets. So it's not nice," neighbor Ramona Laschet said.
Triple Team Traffic’s Mark Arum first reported the hole on Channel 2 Action News This Morning and NewsChopper 2 was the first over the scene.
Johns Creek police are urging drivers to use alternate routes in the area until the road is reopened.
