ATLANTA — It's been six weeks since Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns underwent open-heart surgery.
The 35-year Channel 2 veteran is recovering nicely and back at work.
Burns told his colleagues Jovita Moore and Brad Nitz that he’s ready to get back to normal.
“I’m ready to get back. I can’t wait,” he said.
If you recall, days after his surgery Burns developed what’s called a heart block.
“The top part of my heart was beating differently than the bottom part. So they got very concerned and put me back in the ICU, and put that pacemaker thing with the wires going to stabilize it,” Burns said. “It was the most miserable experience. I can’t even begin to tell you how bad. It was horrible."
Burns said he’s been getting plenty of exercise and building up his strength over the past few weeks.
“They just want me to get out and walk and run and get back to doing a lot of physical therapy,” he said.
Burns plans on easing his way back into work.
“I’m going to try and do the 4 and the 6 just to get me back in and gradually see how it feels for a couple of days, then get back to the 4, 6 and 11,” Burns said.
Burns has done his best to keep everyone updated on his recovery on his Facebook page.
He grew a beard, which quickly became a hot discussion topic. Many people seemed to approve of the facial hair they’re not used to seeing.
Here's a little update with the beard you asked for. I can't wait to see you all again in a few weeks.

However, Glenn plans on returning to work Monday clean-shaven.
“The beard will be gone by showtime at 4 o’clock,” Burns told Nitz.

“It’s been joy. It just takes away any concern you have,” he said. “They’re just wonderful and take away all the thinking you have about what really is going on with you.”
Glenn has said many times that he appreciates all the cards, letters and social media posts he’s received from our loyal viewers.
"Come Monday I think, just getting back into the newsroom and seeing everybody again and interacting," Burns said. "I miss that so much, we have such a great family of people here at WSB, many of them have been here a long, long time, and we're such great friends, It's not just you know a working relationship, it's family."
He wants to remind everyone, “Get an annual checkup!”
