‘We’re homeless right now’: Families in LaGrange lose their homes after severe storms

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — A likely tornado in Troup County caused significant damage to a LaGrange neighborhood.

Channel 2′s Courtney Francisco was live in LaGrange on WSB Tonight at 11 p.m. speaking with families after they said a tornado tore through homes in a subdivision on Lexington Park Drive.

One of the neighbors said the home he shared with his parents was destroyed.

“We’re homeless right now, and just keep us in your prayers,” said Sameer Chaudhary.

His father broke down in tears. They did not have insurance.

Firefighters who were going door to door to check for anyone trapped asked neighbors not to enter their home because it was too dangerous.

For those who were able to get inside their homes, they packed up what they could salvage and tried to find a place to stay for the night. Red Cross arrived to provide shelter and housing assistance.

LaGrange police drove down each street of the neighborhood, announcing where people could get Red Cross help on their loudspeaker.

“I’m 55 years old, I never encountered anything like this in my life. It’s a life-changing experience for me,” said Derrick Winston.
