WASHINGTON, D.C. — It has been over a month since the Georgia Bulldogs became back-to-back College Football Playoff national champions. A few players have wondered: Will the team be invited by President Joe Biden to the White House?
Warren Brinson, a Georgia junior defensive lineman, posted tweet this week saying the team hadn’t received an invitation yet. Georgia fans and a few elected state officials, including Attorney General Chriss Carr, took notice and renewed their calls for a White House visit.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to the White House to confirm the status of the Bulldogs’ invitation.
“The President looks forward to welcoming the Georgia Bulldogs to the White House,” a White House official wrote in a statement.

In January, all 14 of Georgia’s U.S. House Representatives along with Sen. Jon Ossoff and Sen. Raphael Warnock signed a bipartisan letter requesting that the White House invites the Bulldogs to honor them later this year.
“It is our hope that this repeat championship team can join the many teams prior that have been honored by the President. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope you will join us in recognizing the tremendous achievements of all University of Georgia’s football players, coaches, and staff who contributed to this championship season.”

The Bulldogs didn’t get to celebrate winning the 2021 championship at the White House last year because of COVID-19 restrictions that were in place.
Other recent NCAA champions, including the Kansas men’s basketball and South Carolina women’s basketball teams, also haven’t visited Washington although Biden tweeted he looked forward to welcoming both teams.
Biden did welcome the Atlanta Braves back in September during their road trip to play the Nationals, nearly one year after the Braves won the 2021 World Series.
