Who is the suspect in deadly attack in New York?

Law enforcement officials told ABC News the suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov from Tampa, Florida.

NEW YORK — Police are investigating a terrorist attack in Lower Manhattan.

According to police, eight people were killed and several others injured when a driver in a Home Depot rental truck drove onto a bike path near the World Trade Center memorial Tuesday afternoon.

We'll have the latest on this developing story, on Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting at 4:30 a.m.

Law enforcement officials told ABC News the suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov from Tampa, Florida.

Police said after plowing through civilians, the suspect hit a school bus. They said he left the car with a paintball gun and a pellet gun.

Police shot him in the abdomen and he was taken to the hospital.

According to ABC News, Saipov allegedly yelled "Allahu Akbar," which is a key reason authorities are looking at terrorism as a possible motive.

Officials said they believe Saipov acted alone and they do not believe the attack was part of a bigger plot.

ABC NEws confirmed Tuesday night that Saipov left note at scene saying he carried out the attack on behalf of ISIS.
