ATLANTA — Snow has moved out after falling for hours in north Georgia, but icy conditions could make driving treacherous tonight.
Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Katie Walls said wet roads could freeze overnight and remain a problem until 9 a.m.
Snow moved into parts of north Georgia just before 8 a.m. Saturday and several inches accumulated over the next few hours.

Here’s what you need to know right now:
- At the highest elevations in Morganton and Dahlonega, more than six inches of snow fell.
- Several inches of snow accumulated in metro Atlanta as well.
- Sheriff’s offices and police departments are warning drivers to stay off the roads because of slick and icy conditions.

SNOW AS IT HAPPENED:
1:00 p.m. Road conditions are extremely slick in Dawson County, according to Channel 2′s Lauren Pozen.
12:50 p.m. The FAA says a small jet disappeared from radar as the snow system moved through north Georgia this morning. It was last located near the Gordon and Cherokee County line.
12:40 p.m. The snow has stopped falling in many areas, but roads remain dangerous.
12:30 p.m. Bridges beginning to ice over in some areas. Stay safe on the roads.
12:25 p.m. The Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory have been expanded to include more counties.
12:10 p.m. Channel 2′s Chris Jose says roads are extremely dangerous in parts of north Georgia.
12:05 p.m. Crews are out treating roads across north Georgia as snow continues to fall.
12:00 p.m. Here’s how much snow has fallen in parts of north Georgia:
- Morganton - 6′'
- Catoosa County - 4′'
- Gilmer county - 3′'
- Pickens County - 2.75′'
- NE Cobb County - 2.5′'
11:45 a.m. The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office is warning that many roads are impassable and they have numerous abandoned cars along the roads.
11:30 a.m. Road conditions have gotten so bad in Gilmer County that they’ve opened a warming shelter for people who can’t get back to their homes.
11:15 a.m. Meteorologist Brad Nitz says 2.5 inches of snow has already fallen in Cobb County.
10:50 a.m. Police departments in several counties are warning drivers not to get on the roads because of deteriorating conditions.
11 a.m. Meteorologist Brian Monahan says the snow will begin winding down shortly in metro Atlanta.

10:10 a.m. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says road conditions are deteriorating rapidly. Please stay off the roads if possible.
10 a.m. Up to an inch of snow has already accumulated in parts of north Georgia. Many areas in teh metro are starting to change over to a sleet/rain mix.
9:45 a.m. Snow is blanketing the sides of highways. Try to stay off the roads if possible, and if not, please use extra caution.
9:30 a.m. Channel 2′s Chris Jose says more than a half inch of snow has already accumulated in Gilmer County.

9:15 a.m. Heavier snow is starting to fall in metro Atlanta.
