Rain, snow mix starts to move out of north Georgia

ATLANTA — A winter storm warning remains in effect for several counties in north Georgia until 7 a.m. or noon on Sunday.

A winter weather advisory that had been extended to include Gwinnett, Barrow, Banks, Jackson, Hall and Forsyth counties expired earlier Sunday morning.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Eboni Deon said people in those areas need to be very careful if you have to travel due to icy road conditions.

Some areas got up to 3 inches of snow, with 5.3 inches reported in Rabun County.

Here’s how the winter weather unfolded Saturday

9:18 p.m.

The Winter Weather Advisory now includes Gwinnett, Barrow, Banks, Jackson, Hall, and Forsyth counties until 12 PM Sunday.

8:32 p.m.

Roads are very slick north of Alpharetta as well as in Duluth in Gwinnett County, according to AJC WSB Traffic.

8:12 p.m.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says they have had 20+ accidents since 6 p.m. tonight due to speeding on icy roads.

7:27 p.m.

Stay safe on the roads tonight! Road temperatures will stay above freezing in metro Atlanta but there are still some slick spots to our north.

A winter storm warning is now in effect for Habersham, Rabun, Lumpkin, Towns, Union and White counties. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Fannin, Gilmer, Dawson and Pickens counties.

Road temperatures remain well above freezing across the state:

Light snow is now falling in Chamblee in metro Atlanta.
