COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A Newnan woman is behind bars Tuesday after she police said she hit a girl with her an SUV -- all while under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol.
The incident happened Monday as the 6-year-old girl had just gotten off the school bus in the Avery Park Subdivision. That’s when police said Gloria Blevins hit the girl crossing the street in a Hummer H2 SUV.
Blevins didn’t stop and continued into the neighborhood, police said.
The girl’s parents and school bus driver immediately rushed to the injured girl. The girl was airlifted to a hospital with injuries to her eye and leg.

Officers found Blevins at a home in the neighborhood a short time later, where she was questioned and then arrested.
The girl’s mother said she is out of surgery but not out of danger.
She has two plates in her leg to repair two fractures. Her orbital bone was fractured and her mother says if it doesn't heal properly.
“She won't have full usage of her eye looking up down,” said Nicole Cochran.
Neighbors can't believe someone was so impatient and would put a child's life in jeopardy.
“The bus stopped and the stop sign was out and the car just went around,” said neighbor Sydney Brown.
Blevins’ neighbor said the 43-year-old has a child who attends the same school as Pedrick.
“I can't imagine her not stopping she must have just been really overwhelmed,” said Kathy Peteler.
Blevins was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident with injury and other charges.
