SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Sandy Springs Police say a man and his dog were both killed by a hit and run driver.

Police said the accident happened just before 8 p.m. on Saturday on Hammond Drive between Roswell Road and Glenridge Drive.

Michael Farmer, 25, was killed as was his dog, Bruce.

Channel 2′s Mike Petchenik was in Sandy Springs, where he learned Farmer was killed right in front of his home.

The investigation revealed a white sedan hit Farmer and kept going. Police learned that minutes earlier, the same car had been involved in an additional hit-and-run crash with another vehicle in the area of Roswell Road and I-285.

Police said the suspect, 38-year-old Dominique Houston, was speeding away from the first hit-and-run when she hit Farmer.

Police were able to determine that the car was a 2020 white Chevy Malibu with Florida tags. They found the car and Houston in Newnan, where she lives.

Houston was charged with following too closely, two counts of hit and run, 1st degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving.

Houston is being held at the Fulton County Jail.

Neighbors told Petchenik that the place Farmer was killed is a dangerous stretch of road.

“Hammond is just treacherous,” Mark Jagor said. “The speed limit is 35, but the average guess is them going at least 60.”

Jagor said he heard the sirens near his house Sunday night. He said he saw maybe 30 or 40 cop cars. Jagor said he’s a dog owner but avoids walking on Hammond Drive at all costs.

“It’s just a shame,” Jagor said. “We’re dog people. First off hated to lose an animal’s life and obviously now knowing the person passed away it’s just awful.”

Bert Brazel’s house sits just across the street from where the accident happened.

“It’s very busy and people do get out and walk their dogs and it’s dangerous, always been dangerous,” Brazel said.

Brazel said Houston should face the consequences of her actions.

“They need to do their time and pay the due for what happened here, instead of hitting somebody and running that’s even worse,” Brazel said.
