Woman arrested for spray-painting swastikas at Sandy Springs park

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A Sandy Springs woman is facing charges after police say she spray-painted swastikas at a local park.

The woman, who admitted to the vandalism at Hammond Park, said it was a protest over what's going on in the Ukraine.

Sandy Springs police arrested 60-year-old Leressa Levegeve after she spray-painted swastikas on cars and sidewalks at the park.

"It takes away from the beauty of the park and it's hard to understand why they need to do it here," said resident Lindsey Amschler.

Levegeve was charged with damage to property.

"She had black spray paint all over her hands, legs, feet, so pretty big clue that it was the person who had just committed the crime," said Sandy Springs police Sgt. Ron Moman.

Channel 2's Mike Petchenik tracked down Levegeve at her home in Sandy Springs.

"Yes, I did it because I'm against neo-fascists and Obama," Levegeve said.

Levegeve said the spray paint incident was a protest.

"I'm not against Jewish people. I love all people," Levegeve said.

When asked why would she target a park or someone's car, Levegeve said, "Because I have stress. Because I see in the Ukraine neo-fascists killed young boys," Levegeve said.

The owner of the car said it'll cost nearly $1,000 to remove the spray paint.

Levegeve is currently out of jail on bond. She said she'll abide by whatever punishment a judge hands down.
