Woman distracts Ga. shopper with wine ruse to steal wallet, buys $3K in gift cards, police say

DALTON, Ga. — Dalton Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a woman they say distracted a woman by asking her advice on a good bottle of wine, then stole her wallet and racked up more than $3,000 in purchases.

Police said the incident started at a Kroger on March 10. The victim said the suspect asked her for recommendations on a bottle of wine. When the victim bent over the reach for the bottle on the bottom shelf, the suspect took her wallet out of her purse.

The victim didn’t realize she didn’t have her wallet until she went to pay and it was missing. She contacted her bank and learned that her credit and debit cards had been charged for more than $3,000 at a nearby Walmart and a Walgreen’s.

Dalton police retrieved the surveillance video of the suspect, who bought several gift cards at both stores.

The suspect was wearing navy blue scrubs a blue tie-dye undershirt, blue and white Nike shoes, a large necklace and an orange face mask. She was also wearing a blue baseball cap with the state of Tennessee’s flag on Tennessee Volunteer orange.

Police said she appears to have a tattoo on her right hand between the base of her thumb and index finger and also a tattoo on both the left and right sides of her neck.
