BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. — A woman is charged with murdering her own daughter and trying to kill another child.
Authorities in Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, which is just over the Georgia border near Savannah, were called to a home where a woman was reportedly trying to drown her daughter early Friday morning.
When deputies arrived, they detained Jamie Bradley-Brun, 37, based on information given to dispatchers.

As they were searching the house, they found Mackaya Bradley-Brun, 6, dead. They believe she was most likely drowned by her mother.
Investigators learned that Jamie Bradley-Brun then tried to drown an 8-year-old.
Cries for help from the 8-year-old woke up others in the home who were able to stop Jamie Bradley-Brun and rescue the child.

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine Mackaya Bradley-Brun’s cause of death.
Jamie Bradley-Brun is facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
