Woman in her 60s found dead inside Gwinnett County home after fire

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Fire officials are working to figure out what caused a house fire that left a woman dead.

A neighbor called 911 Thursday night after spotting smoke coming from the second-floor of a townhome unit in a triplex building on Willow Gate Circle in Lilburn.

When Gwinnett County firefighter arrived, they said there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the upstairs bedroom. Inside, they found a woman dead.

The woman has not yet been identified but officials say she was in her late 60s.

The woman was the only one inside the townhome at the time and no other injuries were reported.

The fire was contained to the upstairs bedroom and caused heavy damage to the room. There was extensive smoke and water damage throughout the townhome unit.

Firefighters said they want to encourage people to install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each of the bedrooms.
