DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Sahara Fakhir, 32, was sentenced Monday for the murder of 66-year-old Jerry Wheeler. She was also found guilty and sentenced for charges of armed robbery and burglary, in addition to the murder charge.

Wheeler was found stabbed to death in his Chattahoochee Drive home in Douglas County on June 19, 2013.

His body was discovered by his son, a deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said the deputy had tried to serve Fakhir with probation warrants two months prior to his father's killing.

“Sahara Fakhir brutally murdered a completely innocent man,” Douglas County District Attorney Brian Fortner said. “Jerry Wheeler was a hard working pillar of the Douglas County Community. He was at home doing nothing more than cooking his dinner when Ms. Fakhir attacked him and stabbed him to death. The jury’s speedy verdict reflected the overwhelming amount of evidence against the defendant. It brought justice for Jerry Wheeler.”
