COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Marietta police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a grandmother on Tuesday.
Police said 58-year-old Debra Jones of Marietta was attempting to cross Delk Road with her two elementary-school-aged grandchildren around 8:50 p.m. When she stepped onto the roadway first, she was struck by an unknown vehicle. Her grandchildren were not injured.

The driver did not stop, police said.
Jones was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where she later died.
About 30 minutes later, 63-year-old Howard Arden of Dunwoody contacted the Marietta Police Department and told officers that he may have struck something or someone on Delk Road with his 2013 Kia Sorento. Arden said when he arrived at his home, he found damage to his vehicle.
Dunwoody police, with help from Marietta police, took Arden into custody. He was charged with felony hit and run and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.

This is the second deadly hit-and-run crash that Marietta police have investigated in the last two days.
A man was hit and killed along Cobb Parkway, near Kennesaw State University’s Marietta campus, Monday night.

The driver, 43-year-old Kevin Alstead, left the scene after the crash, police said. A Marietta police K9 later tracked down Alstead on the campus of KSU, with the help of KSU police.
