COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Northwest Metro Express Lanes are officially opening this weekend and good news for drivers: the lanes will be free for two weeks.

Any driver with a registered Peach Pass won't have to pay to drive the toll lanes.

Channel 2 Action News has been covering the project of the lanes in Cobb and Cherokee since the construction began four years ago.

The new lanes on I-75 and I-575 in Cobb and Cherokee counties will operate with a dynamic tolling system, just like the existing lanes on I-75 and I-85.

Officials with State Road and Tollway Authority told Channel 2's Audrey Washington that sales are up about 30 to 40 percent over the past three months.

Washington and a Channel 2 Action News photographer were in Cobb Wednesday afternoon to speak with drivers waiting to purchase their passes.

"I probably won't use them every day, but if I have to get somewhere at a certain time, I'll use them," said Greg Watson, who believes the express lanes will help cut his commute by almost 40 minutes.
