CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga.,None — A homeowner admits to shooting his neighbor's dog with a BB gun and told Channel 2 he'd do it again.
Man Admits Shooting Neighbor's Dog With BB Gun
Robert Hohenberger told Channel 2's Tom Jones that he became fed up with dogs relieving themselves in his yard.
"I hit him in the butt with a BB gun," Hohenberger said.
Clayton County police arrested the 64-year-old man and charged him with animal cruelty.
Hohenberger said he has tried everything to keep his neighbor's dogs from pooping in his yard at the Clayton Village mobile home park.
Hohenberger said he has even thrown pine cones at them.
When that didn't work, he took out a BB gun and shot a Chihuahua named Casey, Hohenberger said. That got him tossed in jail.
"I'm not mean. It's just I wanted them to quit (leaving waste) in my yard," he said.
The dog's owner, Leticia Mendoza, said Casey relieved himself before she let him out of the house. She adamantly denies the dog did his business in Hohenberger's yard, Mendoza said through an interpreter.
She said Casey still has the BB pellet in his rear leg and walks with a limp.
Mendoza thinks Hohenberger could have handled the situation differently.
Hohenberger said he said he doesn't hate animals and didn't try to seriously injure the dog.
"I mean, it wasn't like I was aiming for his head or his heart or to kill him," said Hohenberger, who also claims that the dog's owners are violating the county's leash law.
