Man Ambushed, Killed With Assault Rifle

Police recovered the Mercedes stolen from slaying victim Arthur Andrews Jr. Police said the killer abandoned it on top of a basketball court.

ATLANTA — Atlanta detectives are investigating after police said a gunman waited for his victim to drop off a friend and then shot and killed him with an assault rifle early Tuesday morning.

Police said two men returned from a nightclub to their home on Park Avenue in southeast Atlanta just before 4 a.m. when someone, who was waiting for them outside the house, fired six or seven shots from an assault rifle.

One man was hit and killed. The other man was able to escape unharmed, police said.

Officials said the gunman stole the victim's burgundy 2007 Mercedes S550. The Mercedes was later located on a basketball court just before 11 a.m.

A passer-by discovered the car in a park less than a mile from the crime scene and called police.

The victim's name, according to his mother, is 32-year-old Arthur Andrews Jr. His mother said he didn't live at the house but was dropping off a friend when the attack happened.

Atlanta police said they do not have a description of the gunman.

Police said they believe robbery was the motive.

No arrests have been made.
