ATLANTA — Atlanta native Sean McVay is heading to his first Super Bowl as an NFL head coach.
McVay’s Los Angeles Rams will take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
McVay, who played quarterback and defensive back at Marist before going to Miami University of Ohio, became the youngest head coach in NFL history when he was hired in 2017 at the age of 30.
McVay, who turns 33 years old on Thursday, got his start in the NFL as an assistant to longtime family friend Jon Gruden -- at the time the coach of the Buccaneers.
After Gruden’s departure from Tampa Bay in 2010, McVay joined the staff of the Washington Redskins as the assistant tight end coach.
It was there between 2011 and 2013 that he met his girlfriend, Veronika Khomyn.
