A mother is sharing her grief on what should have been her daughter's first day of school.
Kate Rhoades died earlier this year of acute lymphobalstic leukemia. She was just 4 years old.
Her mother, Lindsay Rhoades, posted heartbreaking photos Tuesday of an empty front porch on what should have been Kate's first day of school.
"She should have been dropped off this morning with a new backpack full of supplies a cute new outfit on...and a bow in her hair," wrote Rhoades alongside the photos. "There should be a first day photo of her proudly smiling on our front porch."
Rhoades spent the day remembering her daughter.
"Instead of dropping her off and worrying about her all day, I visited her at the cemetery and miss her beautiful face," Rhoades wrote.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Rhoades told ABC News she hopes her story will inspire others to donate to childhood cancer research.
"I promised her I was going to raise hell," Rhoades said. "And if one child is saved because of my little girl, I know I'll hear her say to me, 'Mommy, I'm proud of you.'"
