Joe Biden projected to win Georgia, ABC News reports

ATLANTA — President-elect Joe Biden is projected to win in Georgia, ABC News projects.

The news comes as major counties in Georgia certified their ballot totals Friday. Biden will pick up Georgia’s 16 electoral votes.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced earlier this week that Georgia would conduct a by-hand recount of all votes cast in the Nov. 3 election, citing the slim margin between Biden and President Donald Trump.

Raffensperger said he does not think the recount will change the outcome of the election.

Biden currently leads Trump by more than 14,000 votes in Georgia.

Channel 2′s Justin Gray spoke to Biden’s team in a phone conference on Friday. They said they don’t see any chance the winner of the election will change.

“We are confident that the outcome of this recount will be the same. That is, that Joe Biden will be president of the United States of America,” a campaign official said.

It’s the first time the state has voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1992.

ABC News also projected that Trump will win North Carolina.

With all states now called, Biden leads Trump with a decisive 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232.

The Electoral College will be certified on Dec. 14

Now Georgia Democrats will turn their eyes toward flipping the state’s U.S Senate seats blue, too. Rev. Raphael Warnock faces off against Sen. Kelly Loeffler in a Jan. 5 runoff. Jon Ossoff also forced a runoff with Sen. David Perdue.
