ATLANTA — Hours before Georgians head to the polls on Election Day, an exclusive poll conducted for WSB-TV by Landmark Communications shows President Trump has widened his lead over Joe Biden but it could be an extremely tight race.

[SPECIAL SECTION: Election 2020]

The poll of 500 likely Georgia voters took place on Sunday and has a margin of error of 4.4%.

President Donald Trump received about 50.1% of the vote while former Vice President Joe Biden received 46.0% of the vote in the poll. A previous poll on Oct. 28 had the president ahead by just one point.

Joe Biden (D)46.0%47.0%

Mark Rountree with Landmark Communications told Channel 2 Action News that polls often show a slight shift on the final weekend before an election as voters who have been critical of their own party eventually overcome the issues they have with a candidate and vote with their traditional party affiliation.

Incumbent Sen. David Perdue also saw a bump in the weekend poll, receiving 49.0% of voters while Democrat Jon Ossoff has 46.9%. Last week’s poll had the two candidates tied, and once again it appears that the race could be headed to a runoff because Libertarian Shane Hazel is earning just shy of 3% of voters.

David Perdue (R)49.0%47.3%
Jon Ossoff (D)46.9%47.2%
Shane Hazel (L)2.7%2.7%

The other Georgia U.S. Senate race is also very likely to head to a runoff. The weekend poll didn’t show much of a shift from the previous poll with Democrat Raphael Warnock at 37.8% followed by Republicans Kelly Loeffler at 27.0% and Doug Collins at 24.5%.

Raphael Warnock (D)37.8%36.9%
Kelly Loeffler (R)27.0%25.1%
Doug Collins (R)24.4%23.1%

The runoff for the Senate seat will take place on Jan 5, 2021.
