ATLANTA — President Donald Trump says that his personal lawyer, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, has tested positive for COVID-19.

ABC News confirmed that Giuliani has been hospitalized at Georgetown Medical Center. His condition has not been released but Giuliani sent out a tweet just before 9:30 p.m. thanking people for their prayers and kind wishes.

Giuliani was in Georgia Thursday, asking the Georgia legislature to overturn the state’s election results and select their own elections. He appeared at a Senate subcommittee meeting and met privately with Georgia lawmakers.

The Trump campaign said Giuliani tested negative twice “immediately preceding his trip to Arizona, Michigan, and Georgia”. The statement added Giuliani did not test positive or show COVID-19 symptoms until more than 48 hours after his return.

Channel 2′s Richard Elliot was at the Capitol Thursday, where Giuliani spent time with a Channel 2 Action News crew. Elliot said the visit was a surprise.

“At no point did we ever see him wearing a mask or social distancing,” Elliot said.

Elliot has reached out to senators who were in the hearing room, but haven’t heard back from any yet.

All senate staffers who were in that room have been ordered to work from home until they get a negative COVID-19 test.

Giuliani was at the state capitol, where he spoke to lawmakers in a crowded room, not wearing a mask.

GEORGIA VOTER GUIDE:

Giuliani and his team presented what they say is new evidence of security camera video from State Farm Arena. But the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office said it already investigated these claims and found nothing.

Giuliani’s son, Andrew Giuliani, who is a White House staffer, tested positive on Nov. 20.

It is unclear if Giuliani is experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19. He is 76 years old.
