Roommate Sought In Fatal Shooting

ATLANTA — A man was found beaten and shot to death outside his home in northwest Atlanta on Sunday, according to the Atlanta Police Department. Police said they were searching for the man's roommate.

Just before 3:30 a.m., a neighbor called 911 about a prowler wandering around a carport on West Lake Drive, Atlanta police Maj. Keith Meadows said. It turned out the man was a gunshot victim looking for help.

When police arrived, it was too late. David Atkins, 38, was dead with a gunshot wound to his chest, Meadows said.

A preliminary assessment revealed that a struggle took place inside the home, but police didn't find any signs of forced entry, Meadows said. He said they have been searching for the Atkins' roommate ever since.
