ATLANTA — Republican Senate hopeful David Perdue is defending his business record on outsourcing.
On Friday, Channel 2 Action News reported on a 2005 deposition relating to Perdue's nine-month stint as CEO of a North Carolina manufacturing company that eventually shuttered and led to the layoffs of almost 8,000 employees.
When an attorney asked Perdue about his experience with outsourcing Perdue responded “Yeah, I spent most of my career doing that.”
Channel 2's Lori Geary caught up with Perdue on the campaign trail in Buckhead at the White House restaurant. When Geary asked Perdue how he defends making a career out of outsourcing he said, "Defend it? I'm proud of it. This is part of American business, part of any business. I mean, outsourcing is the procurement of services and products to help your business run. People do that all day."
Perdue told Geary bad government policies led to layoffs, not bad management.
