Towns County deputy stabbed in neck

A sheriff's deputy is recovering after a man stabbed him in the neck.

TOWNS COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities arrested Daniel Bower, 28, of North Carolina early Wednesday morning.

He is charged with one count aggravated assault on a police officer, according to Towns County sheriff's officials. He was booked into the Towns County Jail, where he remains without bond.

Sheriff's officials said two Towns County deputies and a Hiawassee police officer pulled Bower over in a parking lot Wednesday morning.

Bower ran from police, according to officials. When the officers caught up with him, there was a struggle and that's when the deputy was stabbed, they said.

The deputy was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he has undergone surgery, and remains in stable condition.
