CORONA, Calif. — Days after authorities buried an infant girl who was found dead in July near Interstate 15 in California, police arrested two people on murder charges in connection to the child’s death.
About 70 people, including police officers, firefighters and members of the community, gathered last week at Sunnyslope Cemetery to bury "Baby Jane Doe," The Press-Enterprise reported.
Police said several people came forward after the funeral service with information that led to the arrests of Shawna Andritch, 22, and an unidentified 17-year-old young man. Both people were charged with murder in connection with Baby Jan Doe’s death, police said.
Additional information about their alleged involvement in the infant’s death was not immediately available.
The child was found dead July 27 in a cardboard box near Interstate 15 in Corona, according to The Associated Press. She had been wrapped in a T-shirt.
The cause of the infant’s death remained undetermined following an autopsy by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department, authorities said Thursday.
Police continue to investigate.
