Chase Bank, which is part of JP Morgan Chase & Co., left the Canadian credit market after 13 years in March 2018, closing accounts on its Amazon.ca Rewards Visa and Marriott Rewards Premier Visa, CBC reported.

"Ultimately, we felt it was a better decision for all parties, particularly our customers," spokeswoman Maria Martinez told the CBC in an email.

The number of Canadian customers affected or how much debt was canceled was not immediately known, CBC reported.

Douglas Turner, of Ontario, found out he no longer owed $6,157 on an Amazon Visa card that was closed by Chase.

"I was sort of over the moon all last night, with a smile on my face," Turner told CBC. "I couldn't believe it."
