KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A quest for a Happy Meal did not have a happy ending.

A 10-year-old girl from Missouri wanted to go to McDonald's on Wednesday morning, but her mother was still asleep. Craving a McDonald's meal, the child hopped into her mother's SUV and crashed it into a minivan and electrical box, WDAF reported.

Kansas City officers responded to the crash at 7:45 a.m. and were surprised when the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe was the 10-year-old, KMBC reported. The girl was taken to a hospital with minor bruises.

Police said the girl became lost after driving a few miles.

"She attempted to turn at 12th and Olive," a police spokesman told KMBC. "But since she was an unlicensed 10-year-old, she failed to yield to the Honda coming in the opposite direction."

The other driver was not injured, police said. Both cars were heavily damaged, according to WDAF.

The girl never did make it to McDonald's, the television station reported.
