HOUSTON — Quilty the cat is a troublemaker, and he is luring the other cats at a Houston animal shelter into his life of crime.

Quilty can break out of his room and has done it several times a day. And apparently he has decided why roam the halls of Friends For Life Rescue and Adoption alone when he could also release the other cats who are waiting to find their forever homes, The Washington Post reported.

The cat, who was born at the shelter, and adopted when he was young, was returned to Friends for Life when his owner moved and couldn't take him, according to the Houston Chronicle. Shortly after he returned to the shelter, cats started running amok overnight, and eventually, workers figured out who was freeing the felines thanks to surveillance video, CNN reported.

"We would come in the morning and have to collect all 15 of the cats who had had a blast during the night," Jennifer Hopkins told CNN.

Apparently the shelter wasn't the only place Quilty was able to open doors. He also let the dog out at his first family's home, the Post reported.

Quilty thrust himself into the internet spotlight with more than 30,000 Instagram followers.

The good news is, Quilty is on a trial adoption after his newfound fame.

His prospective owner says Quilty is affectionate and hasn't tried to break out ... yet, the Post reported.

NEW QUILTY UPDATE from his sleepover!! 😻 . "Hi there! Just popping in with another Quilty update! He has really taken over the role of King of the house. He loves to be held like a baby and have his tummy rubbed and looks down on his human minions to do his bidding. He has us all wrapped around his paws for sure! Anytime he is ignored, he just starts meow-ing REALLY loudly and then Bam, he is being loved on and spoiled. His smallest human minion loves to feed him cat treatos, so he definitely has us all doing his bidding and goes to whomever he thinks will give him the most pets or treats. He still sleeps under the covers with me though. All is going well, I will update again tomorrow 😁" . . . #freeQuilty #NoMoreDoors #QuiltyNotGuilty
