SAN ANTONIO — Two puppies were found Friday afternoon in a trash dumpster behind a Texas grocery store, and a San Antonio pet rescue organization is trying to find them new homes, KSAT reported.
The staff at San Antonio Pets Alive! found the animals Friday afternoon. Earlier in the day, a man visited the SAPA office with two puppies and said he wanted to leave them there, clinic director Kylie Brascher told KSAT.
The SAPA staff told the man they did not accept strays and pointed him toward San Antonio’s Animal Care Services office, the television station reported.
"Normally, you can tell if someone is willing to go the extra mile and take them to the shelter," Brascher told KSAT. "We had no idea he was going to discard these puppies. He walked up carrying them like they were his own."
The puppies, named Bowie and Crockett, were found four hours later, about 100 yards from the SAPA office, KSAT reported. They were suffering from flea infestation and ringworm, and tested positive for worms, the television station reported.
Staff members filed a police report. Authorities are viewing surveillance camera footage to determine who abandoned the puppies, KSAT reported.
“Those puppies' lives were in danger, and as happy as we are to help them, they’ve taken a kennel from a dog that’s on the euthanasia list at the city shelter,” Brascher told the television station.
