According to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Albany residents, Charles Kizer, 57, and Matthew Irish, 49, died at the scene of the crash in Millersburg.

Kizer was piloting the aircraft, a North Wing trike model, The Oregonian reported.

A trike is an ultralight aircraft composed of a hang glider and a powered tricycle, according to The Associated Press.

The crash occurred at about 8:52 p.m. PDT, and witnesses called 911 to report the incident, the sheriff’s office said.

The National Transportation Safety Board said the aircraft was an unregistered, homemade trike. The NTSB was responding to the scene to investigate, according to the AP.

“Since the aircraft was motorized and had a capacity of two persons, the Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and will help in the investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in its news release.
