2021 Oscars: ‘Nomadland’ takes best picture, director; diversity reigns; see complete winners list

David Fincher’s “Citizen Kane” origin story, “Mank” led the field with 10 nominations, with 10 other films scoring six nods each, including Shaka King’s historical thriller “Judas and the Black Messiah,” Florian Zeller’s dementia tale “The Father,” Aaron Sorkin’s courtroom drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” Lee Isaac Chung’s Korean American Dream story “Minari,” Chloé Zhao’s road-trip drama “Nomadland” and Darius Marder’s deaf-culture study “Sound of Metal,” USA Today reported.

Several firsts occurred during Sunday’s festivities, including actress Yuh-Jung Youn being the first Korean actor to win an Academy Award, claiming the Oscar for best supporting actress for her performance in “Minari.”

Meanwhile, Chloé Zhao became the first woman of color, the first Chinese woman and only the second woman in Oscar history to win the Academy Award for best director for “Nomadland,” which also won best picture.
