The standoff started after three people were killed during a shooting at a hotel Wednesday, The Associated Press reported.

The incident happened at the Broadway Inn Express hotel in Biloxi, according to the Sun Herald.

One of the people killed may have been the owner of the hotel, WXXV reported.

Police said the man who opened fire left the hotel, with witnesses telling the Sun Herald he drove off in a black Mercedes.

Police said he then assaulted another person, a public works contractor for Gulfport, who was apparently shot and is being treated at an area hospital, WLOX reported.

A man told WXXV that he was driving when someone tried to carjack him, but when the door would not open, the person ran for a nearby store and was held up inside, WLOX reported.

There were no others inside the business, WXXV reported.

Both the Sun Herald and WLOX said the suspect has been found dead after a two-hour-long standoff.
