LOWER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A 3-year-old girl died after officials said she fell into a septic tank at a campground in Lower Township, New Jersey, over the weekend.
Police were called Saturday night for an unresponsive toddler at Sun Outdoors Cape May Campground. When they arrived, they found the child who had been pulled from the septic tank, NJ.com reported.
The tank was located in the playground, NBC News reported.
She eventually was pronounced dead at the Cape Regional Medical Center.
Her cause of death is pending autopsy results, but officials said there were no signs of foul play. Officials believe the girl’s death was an accident, The Associated Press reported.
The child’s name has not been released, NBC News reported.
A campground official said they are working with police as part of the investigation.
The campground opened for the season on April 1, NJ.com reported.
