GASTONIA, N.C. — A Charlotte, North Carolina, man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of his 7-year-old niece, authorities said.
According to WSOC-TV, Gabrielle Jones was shot in the head April 13 at a home on Ware Avenue in Gastonia. She later died from her injuries, authorities said.
Gastonia police said a music video was being filmed at the time of the shooting, according to court documents. Someone handed a gun to Jeremy Quintrel Lewis, who fired the weapon, sending a bullet through a wall and striking the girl, authorities said.
Police initially arrested Lewis, the victim’s uncle, on multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, WSOC reported. Authorities upgraded the charges to include second-degree murder after the girl’s death, according to the news outlet.
Lewis remains jailed without bond, authorities said.
