Alabama man accused of beating woman unconscious in convenience store parking lot

FAIRFIELD, Ala. — An Alabama man is accused of beating a 61-year-old woman in the parking lot of a convenience store until she lapsed into unconsciousness, authorities said.

James Michael Bell, 39, of Birmingham, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, attempting to elude, disorderly conduct and failure to possess a felon registration car, AL.com reported.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief David Agee, a patrol deputy observed a man “stomping” the woman on the face, head and stomac at the Fairfield convenience store, WBRC reported. According to authorities, Bell fled when the deputy approached him, the television station reported.

The deputy and witnesses stopped to give medical attention to the woman until medical personnel arrived, AL.com reported.

Jefferson County deputies later located Bell and took him into custody, WTVM reported.

Agee said authorities believe the woman could be related to Bell, AL.com reported.

Bell is being held in the Jefferson County Jail. Hhis bail was set at $9,200, according to online jail records.
