Alabama man accused of fatally shooting assisted living facility supervisor

PRATTVILLE, Ala. — An Alabama man is accused of fatally shooting a supervisor at an assisted living facility, authorities said.

Devonta Wayaire Brown, 22, of Prattville, was charged with murder in the death of Marcus Wayne Warren, 62, according to court documents.

Warren worked at Magnolia Wood Therapeutic Assisted Living, WFSA reported, According to court documents, Warren asked Brown, who was a resident at the facility, to go to sleep Sunday night, the television station reported.

According to authorities, Brown became angry and went to his room, returning with a handgun he had kept under his mattress, WFSA reported. Brown returned to the living room area where Warren was sitting and fatally shot him, the television station reported.

It is unclear how Brown brought the gun into the facility.

According to court documents, Brown then forced another resident at the facility to drag Warren’s body outside and tried to put the man’s body into a vehicle, WFSA reported. Failing to do so, the men called 911, the television station reported.

According to police, Brown was interviewed just before 6 a.m. Monday and confessed to the shooting. He was booked into the Autauga County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
