Alabama man arrested 3 times in 3 cities over 31-day period

An Alabama man is back in jail after being arrested on drug charges three times in three different cities over a 31-day period, authorities said.

Cody Duane Leslie, 33, of Pelham, is being held without bail in the Shelby County Jail, WBMA reported. He was arrested once in August and twice in September, according to Shelby County Drug Enforcement Capt. Clay Hammac.

“It was clearly a busy 31 days for Mr. Leslie," Hammac said in a statement. "However, thanks to the assistance from our partnering law enforcement agencies and our district Attorney, Mr. Leslie will no longer be free to bring dangerous drugs into our communities until he is released by the court, which may be a very long wait for him.”

On Aug. 24, Pelham police arrested Leslie on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, AL.com reported. He was released from the Shelby County Jail after posting $116,000 bail, the website reported.

On Sept. 19, Leslie was arrested in Calera for unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana first degree, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, WBRC reported. After posting $21,000 bail, Leslie was again released from the Shelby County Jail, the television station reported.

Two days later, Leslie was arrested in Thorsby and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, WBMA reported. Leslie posted bail of $36,250 and was released, the television station reported.

After learning about the three arrests, the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force asked the district attorney’s office to review Leslie’s previous arrests and revoke bail, AL.com reported. The district attorney’s office complied, and Leslie was charged with three additional charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, first-degree of unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, the website reported.

Leslie was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Sept. 24, where he remains pending a hearing, according to jail records.

“We hope the message remains clear: If a drug dealer comes to Shelby County to sell drugs in our communities, we will pursue him and we will work tirelessly to see that he spends a very long time in prison," Hammac said in the task force’s statement.
