TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An Alabama man was arrested after a 19-month-old girl was hospitalized Saturday with severe head trauma, investigators said.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said Felix Tabb, 28, an acquaintance of the child’s mother, was watching the girl when she experienced significant head trauma, WBRC reported.

“Physical evidence was located at the residence that showed that the child was injured under his care,” Capt. Jack Kennedy told the Tuscaloosa News.

The infant was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries around 1:30 p.m., officials said. Medical personnel called investigators because the injuries appeared to be caused by severe abuse or trauma.

Tabb was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree assault. He is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. His bond will be set at a later date, the Tuscaloosa News reported.
