Astros beat Phillies in six games to win 2022 World Series

HOUSTON — The Houston Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Game 6 of the 2022 World Series on Saturday night, winning their first Fall Classic and second overall since 2017.

Until Saturday, Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker held the record for most wins by an MLB manager without a World Series title. The 73-year-old Baker, who had been to the World Series twice before as a manager, is the oldest championship manager, according to The Associated Press. He topped Jack McKeon, who was a month shy of 73 when he managed the Florida Marlins to a World Series title in 2003.

As a player, Baker competed in three World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was part of the winning squad that won the championship in 1981. His last postseason appearance came in 1983, when the Dodgers lost to the Phillies.

The last team to win a Series at home was the 2013 Boston Red Sox, according to the AP. The Astros watched in 2019 as the Washington Nationals celebrated a title on their field and again last season as the Atlanta Braves beat them in six games.

Philadelphia was 22-29 when Joe Girardi was fired and replaced by bench coach Rob Thomson. They finished the regular season 65-46 under Thomson.
