LOS ANGELES — As the destructive California wildfires rage on, former Atlanta Braves star and Dodgers World Series MVP Freddie Freeman and his family have made a generous donation.
Freeman, who grew up in Orange County next to Los Angeles County, donated $300,000 to wildfire relief efforts with $100,000 going to the Los Angeles Fire Department, $100,000 to the Pasadena Fire Department and $100,000 to the Salvation Army.

In her Instagram story, Freeman’s wife Chelsea said that she has also matched donations made to the Pasadena Humane as they care for the pets lost or left behind in the fires.
The Dodgers announced they are working on efforts to help the community.
“The players, front office and staff of the Dodgers are absolutely heartbroken over the devastation of the fires in and around Los Angeles. We are working closely with community partners and impacted areas and look forward to announcing more about our immediate efforts and our ongoing work in the coming days. We are grateful to all first responders who have been on the front lines of this tragedy, and we grieve with the thousands of families who have lost their homes and possessions, including those within the Dodgers organization.”

As of Sunday night, 13% of the Palisades Fire and 27% of the Eaton Fire have been contained. At least 24 people have died.
thousands of homes have been destroyed and about 150,000 residents in Los Angeles County are still under evacuation orders.
“There are still active fires that are burning within the Palisades area, making it extremely, extremely dangerous for the public,” LA city Fire Chief Kristin Crowley said at a Sunday briefing. “There’s no power, there’s no water, there’s broken gas lines, and we have unstable structures.”
Officials have not determined the cause for the fires.
