Caroline Flack, former ‘Love Island,’ reality TV host, dead at 40, family confirms

Caroline Flack, the former host of the British reality show “Love Island” died, her family confirmed Saturday. She was 40.

Flack, who left the show in December 2019 after she was charged with assault, was found dead at her apartment, People reported.

“We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February,“ a family statement given to the U.K.’s Press Association said. “We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.“

A cause of death has not been officially announced.

Flack hosted the dating series from its debut in 2015, CNN reported. She was removed as host in December after she pleaded not guilty to assaulting her 27-year-old boyfriend, tennis player Lewis Burton, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was replaced by Irish TV host Laura Whitmore, the website reported.

Flack was out on bail awaiting a court date in March, CNN reported.

“Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news," an ITV spokesman said in a statement to People. "Caroline was a much-loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends.“

Flack began her career in 2002 in the comedy series “Bo’ Selecta!” and later hosted shows on ITV, including “The Xtra Factor,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Flack also appeared on “Celebrity Juice,” “Britain’s Got More Talent,” “Loose Women,” “Sunday Brunch” and “Strictly Come Dancing,” the website reported.
