CHICAGO — At least two people have died and seven others are recovering from injuries after gunfire erupted at a Chicago park, authorities said.

According to WGN-TV and WLS-TV, the shooting occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday in Washington Park. Chicago police said an altercation involving two groups of people escalated into gunfire, the newspaper reported. Nine people, ranging in age from 19 to 46, suffered gunshot wounds, police said.
Two of the wounded, a 43-year-old man who was struck in the head and a 20-year-old man who was shot multiple times, died at a nearby hospital, WLS-TV reported. The other seven victims are in good condition, police said.
