Chick-Fil-A manager saves the day after backup at SC COVID-19 vaccination site

SOUTH CAROLINA — We’ve all heard the joke: If Atlanta-based Chick-Fil-A took over vaccine drive-through sites, we’d all get our shots in no time.

Well, that came true this week for one community in South Carolina.

When a drive-through vaccination site in Mount Pleasant got backed up, Mayor Will Haynie did the only thing that made sense: he invited a local Chick-Fil-A manager to the site to help expedite the process.

The Atlanta chain, after all, has mastered the art of the drive-through.

“We asked local Chick-Fil-A manager Jerry Walkowiak for help today after a computer glitch backed up things at a drive-through vaccination site,” Haynie said. “Instead of just giving advice, this video shows what he did.”

In the video, Walkowiak jumped right into what was obviously a familiar role for him: making sure people got through the line quickly and efficiently.

Standing in the rain with a mask on, Walkowiak checked to make sure people had their paperwork and waved them on to the next step of the vaccination process.

“When you need help, call the pros,” Haynie wrote.

Apparently, getting Walkowiak’s professional drive-through experience in the mix helped iron out the kinks.

“Great job coordinating this! Unbelievably efficient and coordinated,” one man said on Facebook.

“This is perfect! Chick fil a (sic) knows how to manage a line!!!” another woman wrote.
