Child star ‘Honey Boo Boo’ to undergo weight-loss surgery

Alana Thompson, better known as “Honey Boo Boo,” says she hopes to drop 150 pounds by undergoing weight loss surgery in the fall.

According to AL.com, Thompson, 16, has scheduled a Suture Sculpt endoscopic sleeve procedure in New York for late August following her next birthday. The outpatient procedure typically involves a doctor placing sutures in the stomach guided by a camera. The sutures change the shape of the stomach to make the patient feel fuller sooner when eating, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The surgery comes after Thompson’s attempts to lose weight by exercising and eating healthy, according to AL.com. She reportedly weighs 275 pounds and is hoping to lose up to 150 pounds from the procedure, her manager Gina Rodriguez said.

Mama June Shannon, Thompson’s mother, underwent weight loss surgery in 2017, and reportedly lost at least 150 pounds, according to Entertainment Tonight.
