Coronavirus: CVS hiring thousands ahead of COVID-19 vaccine rollout

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Attention all pharmacists, nurses and pharmacy technicians.

CVS Health is aggressively recruiting thousands of employees to help administer COVID-19 vaccines once the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves a candidate for distribution.

“We are urgently hiring thousands of qualified pharmacists, nurses and pharmacy technicians to help administer COVID-19 vaccines when available to pharmacies,” the company stated in an email to customers, before asking the same patrons to forward the notice to any “qualified applicants.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Troy Brennan, chief medical officer for CVS Health, told CNN that the initial focus will be on servicing roughly 2 million patients in 31,000 long-term care facilities nationwide.

According to WFLA, pharmacy teams administering the vaccines in long-term care facilities will receive additional “hero pay” bonuses and CVS Health has already hired about 76,000 full-time, part-time and temporary workers since March.

Fox Business offered the following breakdown of available positions and job descriptions for anyone considering joining CVS’s COVID-19 Vaccine Support Team:

• Pharmacists will prepare and dispense prescriptions, ensure doses are correct and counsel patients on the proper use of their medications. Pharmacists are accountable for supporting the management, oversight and operation of all aspects of the pharmacy, according to CVS.

• Pharmacy technicians, who are overseen by licensed pharmacists, are responsible for processing prescriptions, dispensing medications, providing information to customers or health professionals as well as performing administrative tasks. They also help to administer COVID-19 tests at more than 4,000 drive-thru CVS testing sites nationwide.

• Nurse practitioners and physician assistants in HealthHUB and MinuteClinic locations will administer COVID-19 vaccinations as well as treat patients.

• Licensed practical nurses and licensed vocational nurses assist practitioners “with all of our expanded health care services,” including COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, point-of-care testing, taking vital statistics and drawing blood.

• Registered nurses will provide and coordinate patient care and educate patients about various health conditions.

• Infusion nurses provide infusion therapy to adults and children of all ages wherever they live, work or travel.
